HC Deb 12 April 1978 vol 947 cc439-40W
Mr. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, of murders committed in Scotland over the past few years, how many have been committed within the extended family; and what estimate he makes of the numbers of murders in which alcohol was a contributory factor.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Information about earlier years is not readily available, but an examination of cases known to the police during 1974, 1975 and 1976, now determined to be murder, indicates that the numbers in which the principal suspect was within the extended family of the victim were 7, 15 and 16 respectively. No record is available of the number of murders in which alcohol was a contributory factor.
