HC Deb 10 April 1978 vol 947 c331W
Dr. M. S. Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if Her Majesty's Government are currently involved in discussion with the Government of Belize, the United States of America or any other Government in the Caribbean area about the defence of Belize after that country's independence; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rowlands

No. We believe that the best means of ensuring Belize's security after independence is a negotiated settlement with Guatemala, acceptable to the Government and people of Belize. Our efforts are directed towards establishing whether the basis for such a settlement exists.
