§ Mr. Jesselasked the Secretary of State for Social Services why an elderly lady patient, details of whom have been sent to him by the hon. Member for Twickenham, was transported from her home in Twickenham for treatment at St. Peter's Hospital, London, WC, in a mincab (a) which arrived an hour late to collect her, (b) which carried the driver and four other sick passengers who were destined for different hospitals and some of whom had to sit on the laps of others, (c) which arrived at St. Peter's Hospital one-and-three-quarter hours later for the appointment and (d) the driver of which refused to take her home; if he will describe the system of employment of and payment to minicabs; what check is made of the quality of work done before payment is made; whether in the above case payment was made before or after the job; and if he will make a statement.
