asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many women were imprisoned for soliciting in 1976; and what was the total cost to the public funds, including the placement in care of any children.

In 1976 there were 168 receptions into prison of women sentenced to imprisonment for offences of soliciting or loitering for prostitution. Information about the cost to public funds of particular inmates is not available.
