HC Deb 29 November 1977 vol 940 c153W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection, in view of the fact that earlier in the current year the retail price of the small transistor radio batteries was 5½p, and that currently they are 10p each, whether he will refer the matter to the Price Commission to ascertain why the price has increased by almost 100 per cent.

Mr. Maclennan

My right hon. Friend has at present no plans to direct the Price Commission to examine these products. However, the Price Commission notified him on 24th November that it intended to investigate certain proposed increases in the price of dry (primary) batteries manufactured by the Ever Ready Company (Great Britain) Ltd.
