HC Deb 29 November 1977 vol 940 c153W
Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what is the effect on the price of a loaf of bread of the EEC levy on the United Kingdom's imported wheat.

Mr. Maclennan

The proportion of imported bread-making wheat on which the EEC levy is payable varies between different bakers and different types of loaf and the levy itself varies from time to time. It is, therefore, impossible to give a precise figure, but the levy is currently estimated to be equivalent to around ¾–1p of the cost of a large standard loaf.
