§ Mrs. Chalkerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has considered for changing the burden of the costs of port conservancy and river dredging; and how the United Kingdom system of costs compared with the systems employed in other EEC countries.
§ Mr. William RodgersI have been asked to reply.
None. The raising of revenue to meet the costs of port conservancy and river dredging is a matter for the harbour authorities in the United Kingdom. As to the position in other EEC countries, a fact finding survey, initiated by the Commission, is in progress to determine the practice in principal ports of member States.
