§ 28. Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he is taking in respect of area health authorities which have used moneys allocated for the introduction of secure psychiatric units for quite different purposes.
§ Mr. Ennalsthe supplementary revenue allocations for secure psychiatric656W facilities were made available to regional health authorities in 1976–77 on a recurring basis. It was recognised that initially the amount allocated may have been more than could in practice be put to use to promote such facilities. My Department reminded regional health authorities in May 1977 that in the present financial year they should be in a position to put the allocation to fuller use, and recommended that any unspent allocation should be devoted primarily to other facilities for the mentally ill. I am calling on regional health authorities for a further progress report at the end of the year.
