§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will appoint a committee of inquiry into the special pay conditions of firemen and ambulance workers, similar to that for the police, and give an assurance that he will agree to any of the recommendations made by these three committees.

Friend to the statement which I made on 9th November.—[Vol. 938, c. 671–4.] Discussions in the National Joint Council are continuing, with a view to establishing a formula for determining fire service pay. I cannot comment on the pay of ambulance workers, which is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services.
