HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 c124W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons were provided with free installation and rental of telephones in the last 12 months for which figures are available under the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act in England and Wales.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Complete figures are not yet available for the year ending 31st March 1977, but it is estimated that about 12,300 households received assistance with the installation of telephones that about 1,300 received assistance with the installation of attachments for telephones already installed and that about 78,800 received assistance with telephone rentals. This last number excludes households where the telephone and/or attachments were installed during the year in question and where the whole or part of the installation costs were met by the local authority. The proportion of cases in which the whole cost was met is not known.
