HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 cc123-4W
Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he remains satisfied with the availability of family planning training to general practioners; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ennals

Responsibility for the postgraduate education of general practitioners, including training in family planning, lies with the postgraduate medical deans of universities who are provided with funds for the purpose. The deans' attention has been drawn recently to the need for adequate provision of family planning training, and general practitioners continue to attend training courses, some of which are organised in association with health authorities who have overall responsibility for provision of family planning services.

I have no reason to believe that the resources available for such training are inadequate to meet the demands of general practitioners who feel in need of training in family planning
