HC Deb 11 November 1977 vol 938 cc268-9W
Mr. Jay

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total revenue from levies charged on cereals imported into the United Kingdom in 1976 and the first half of 1977; and how far this was offset by monetary compensatory amounts.

Mr Robert Sheldon:

The total revenue from levies charged on cereals imported in 1976 was £12.5 million and in the first half of 1977 was £34.5 million

During 1976 the amount of monetary compensatory amounts refunds paid to importers of cereals was £35.7 million and in the first half of 1977 was £1.2 million. These figures relate to the period up to 17th May 1976 on both intra-Community trade in respect of all member States and on third country trade, but since then United Kingdom monetary compensatory amounts on imports from other member States, except Italy, have been paid in the exporting member State, and information about them is not available at present.
