Lord MOLSON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the total cost to public funds of the Ampthill Peerage Case, specifying separately the cost of the time spent by the four Law Lords, the Solicitor-General and his junior, the reproduction of legal documents the reporting and the officials attending.

Lord PEART

The Law Lords, the Solicitor-General, the Treasury Solicitor and their respective staffs carried out part of the normal duties of their respective offices and received no fee or additional payment. Payments to junior counsel for the Crown borne on public funds totalled £800 plus VAT. The cost of shorthand writing was £875 and the cost of printing and publishing the proceedings was £7,650.
