§ Mr. MasonAt about 8.40 on the morning of Friday 20th May Reserve Constable North was shot dead by gunmen. Mr. North was off duty at the time and carrying out his civilian job of driving a school bus. The incident occured at Drumderg in County Tyrone between Benburb and Blackwatertown. It is not known exactly how many gunmen were involved, but they opened fire from both sides of the road from a range of about 25 metres. A number of 9mm spent bullet cases were found at the scene by the security forces. To date no arrests have been made. Police inquiries are being vigorously pursued.
