HC Deb 24 May 1977 vol 932 c432W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland under what circumstances a large haulage store and works was burned in Ballymena on the morning of 18th May; what are the results of the forensic examinations; and what arrests have been made.

Mr. Mason

At about 3 o'clock on the morning of Wednesday 18th May a fire was reported to have broken out in a goods yard in Railway Street, Ballymena. The yard comprises old buildings which are rented out to a number of businesses. The fire broke out in premises which included the Northern Ireland Carriers' garage and fuel store. Five vehicles were destroyed and four were damaged. The building was extensively damaged. Police inquiries are being vigorously pursued, but forensic reports on the fire are not yet available.
