HL Deb 23 May 1977 vol 383 cc1158-9WA
Lord STANLEY of ALDERLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether under the Farm Capital Grant Scheme they will pay a 20 per cent. grant on a correctly erected fence to keep out: 1. Rabbits, and 2. Deer.

Lord STRABOLGI

Grant is already available under the Farm Capital Grant Scheme towards the cost of erecting permanent rabbit or deer-proof fencing to protect agricultural land, at 50 per cent. in less-favoured areas and 20 per cent. elsewhere. In less-favoured areas (but not elsewhere) grant at 50 per cent. is also available for the erection of permanent rabbit and deer-proof fencing to protect newly planted shelter belts. The less-favoured area rate of grant is payable only to farmers in such areas whose businesses produce an income per labour unit of less than £3,300.
