Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what persons, including officials, it is intended should travel to Maputo, Mozambique, for the International Conference in Support of the Peoples of Zimbabwe and Namibia on 16th May, as part of the British delegation, or in support of that delegation; and what will be the total cost of this, including costs of travel, accommodation, entertainment and any other cost whatsoever to public funds.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the estimated cost to public funds of Great Britain's participation at the international conference in support of the peoples of Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Mr. Rowlands

I will be leading the delegation to Maputo. Members of the delegation will probably include Mr. James Murray, the British Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Mr. Dennis Grennan, Counsellor for African Affairs, two First Secretaries from our Mission to the United Nations, my private secretary, a communications officer and a shorthand typist. The estimated cost is £10,900.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will publish in the Official Report the agenda of the international conference in support of the peoples of Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Mr. Rowlands

I have had placed in the Library of the House the United Nations document (A/CONF82/PC/2) which constitutes the second report of the Organising Committee for the Maputo Conference and contains a draft agenda.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list the countries which will be represented at the international conference in support of the peoples of Zimbabwe and Namibia to be held in Lourenco Marques on 16th May.

Mr. Rowlands

It is not yet certain which countries will be attending the Maputo Conference, but among those Western countries which have already decided to go will be the five Western members of the Security Council: the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany. Denmark, Australia, Sweden and Finland will also attend.
