asked the Minister for the Civil Service what was the cost of (a) pay settlements and (b) increased payments of employer's national insurance contributions in respect of staff of HMSO in the period 1973–74 to 1976–77.

In the period 1973–74 to 1976–77 the cost of pay settlements was £11.1 million and increases in payments of employer's national insurance contributions amounted to £1.4 million.
