HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c357W
Mr. Michael Spicer

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he plans to introduce further legislation to regulate the carriage of dangerous chemicals by road.

Mr. William Rodgers

The Health and Safety Commission issued at the end of April its consultative document containing proposals for regulations to make mandatory the labelling of road tanker vehicles with information primarily to guide the emergency services on remedial measures necessary in case of an incident involving spillage. After considering comments the Commission will be submitting its formal proposals to me for regulations to be made. The Health and Safety Executive has already made significant progress on the preparation of proposals for mere general regulations governing all aspects of the conveyance of dangerous goods by road. These will supplement existing regulations relating to the conveyance of corrosive substances, inflammable liquids and organic peroxides.
