§ Mr. Carter-Jonesasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what arrangements are made for fishing by anglers in regional water authority reservoirs; and what representations he has received concerning public access for fishing.
§ Mr. Denis HowellSection 20 of the Water Act 1973 requires water authorities to take such steps as are reasonably practicable to put their rights to the use of water, and associated land, to the best use for recreation purposes. I understand that around two-thirds of all water authorities' reservoirs are already used by anglers. I have had no recent representations concerning public access for fishing, but if my hon. Friend has a particular case in mind he may care to write to me.
