asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the per capita income in England and Wales, respectively.

Gross domestic product per head—derived from the sum of all factor incomes from production— and (d) an agricultural worker, each married and with two children not over 11 years of age, and normally earning £40, £60, £80 and £100 per week; and if he will show the effect of these refunds upon net weekly spending power, assuming in each case rent or mortgage repayments plus rates totalling £7.80, with work expenses except in the case of the agricultural worker, of £2.20 per week.

Assuming full implementation of the Budget proposals for 1977–78, the tax refunds available to a married man with two children not over 11, in the early weeks of sickness, are as follows:—

in England and Wales is estimated to have been £1,681 and £1,446 respectively in 1975, the latest year for which estimates are available. Total personal income per head, before tax, is estimated to have been £1,756 in England and £1,525 in Wales in 1975.
