Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on how the skills and experience of the registered unemployed in the Inner London area compare with the available vacancies.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that information in the form requested is not available. However, I attach a table pro- vided by the Commission which sets out a comparison, by occupational group, of registered unemployed, as at 10th March 1977 with unfilled notified vacancies, as at 4th March 1977 for Employment Service Agency local offices which approximatelycomprise "Inner London" as defined in terms of certain London boroughs.

1 The figures for managerial and professional occupations relate to the whole of London; separate figures for "Inner London" only are not readily available.

2.Inner London for the purposes of the above table is defined as the Employment Service Agency Districts of Borough, Brixton, Hammersmith, Kings Cross, Poplar and Westminster plus the local office areas of Camden Town, Clapham Junction, Deptford, Hackney, Lewisham, Shore-ditch and Tooting which together comprise approximately the territory within the London Boroughs of Camden, Hackney, Hammersmith, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, and the Cities of London and Westminster.
