HC Deb 17 June 1977 vol 933 c288W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Industry why the shipbuilding industry is permitted to spend funds from public sources on purchasing equipment overseas when, in all but a few cases, technically suitable equipment is available from United Kingdom manufacturers.

Mr. Kaufman

A high proportion of equipment in British-built ships is purchased from domestic suppliers. However, the specific requirements of the customer may necessitate individual items of equipment being purchased overseas.
