HC Deb 21 July 1977 vol 935 c718W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the latest total number of vacancies for employment notified to him from the employment exchanges in the Leek parliamentary constituency; and what were the comparable figures in 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976.

Mr. Golding

The following is the information:

Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many disabled people in the Grimsby area are currently employed; and what percentage of the disabled population of working age they represent.

Mr. John Grant

I am advised by the Manpower Services Commission that no information is available about the numbers of disabled people in employment. However, at the annual count in April 1977 there were 1,603 people registered as disabled in Grimsby of whom 346 were unemployed as at 9th June 1977.

Most of the remainder were probably in employment, but, for the reasons I gave in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Stoke-on-Trent, South (Mr. Ashley) on 5th July 1977—[Vol. 934, c. 517–18]—it is not possible to give precise figures of the number or percentage.
