HC Deb 21 July 1977 vol 935 cc717-8W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many school leavers in Grimsby have been offered work under any of the current employment schemes.

Mr. Golding

I regret that the precise information is not readily available because school leavers cannot be distinguished from other young people in the statistics. However, a wide range of special measures to combat youth unemployment have been provided since 1975 and many young people in Grimsby have been assisted by them. In Grimsby, under the job creation programme 24 projects have been approved providing 72 jobs about half of which have been taken up by young people; 36 schemes have been approved under the work experience programme and 69 young people are currently participating; and the employment of 161 young people has been approved under the current youth employment subsidy scheme. view of the fact that Mr. Roffey is an official of the Transport and General Workers' Union representing the tally clerks.

Mr. Harold Walker

Yes.
