Two new elements have recently been added to the established parts of our programme indicated above, as follows:
  1. (i) support is being provided, under a scheme promoted by the United Kingdom Council for Overseas 335 Student Affairs to which other European donors are also contributing, to certain Rhodesian students who, having enrolled on courses in this country, had been unable by 31 December, 1976 to secure financial support. One hundred and fourteen students were identified as being eligible for consideration under this scheme, and some 90 are now benefiting. The estimated cost is £30,000 in 1976–77, and an estimated £200,000 in 1977–78;
  2. (ii) the sum of £25,000 has been allocated in 1977–78 to support awards for training of Africans in basic secretarial skills at the Nhumburiko Vocational Training College which has been developed in Salisbury by the YMCA.
