HC Deb 04 July 1977 vol 934 c445W
Mr. Kershaw

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement about economic developments in St. Helena.

Mr. Rowlands

The current five-year development plan for St. Helena came into operation in 1974. It emphasises the development and exploitation of natural resources, the improvement of amenities and a general increase in self-sufficiency. We shall have a more complete idea of the scope for developing the island's natural resources when the full results of research financed under the plan are available.
