asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost in a full tax year of extending to all widows the present income tax concessions available to war widows.

25. Mr. Bowden

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost to the Exchequer if 50 per cent. of all widows' pensions were exempted from tax.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The cost in 1976–77 of extending a 50 per cent. tax exemption to all widows' benefits is estimated to be £70 million.
