§ Mr. Hordernasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will show the cost of unemployment benefit in each of the last 10 years, and if he will publish a similar table showing the latest cost of administration of his Department and that of the employment offices and job-centres, and of the job creation programme in each year.
§ Mr. GoldingThe information required is shown in the following table:
as a whole, in consultation with local bodies, including the North Staffordshire District Manpower Committee, which has set up a special sub-committee to consider the question. When the results of the review are known, consideration will be given to supplementing, if necessary, the existing training facilities available at the skillcentre at Hanley, and the courses being run on behalf of the agency in colleges of further education and employers' establishments. The first results 631W of the review are expected to be made available shortly.
§ Mr. Forresterasked the Secretary of State for Employment why no facilities for training pottery workers exist at the Skill Centre, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent.
§ Mr. GoldingThe Manpower Services Commission informs me that at the time when the selection of trades for the Hanley Skillcentre was being considered the Department of Employment, which was then responsible for vocational training agreed, in consultation with the Pottery Manufacturers Federation, that the existing training facilities were adequate to meet the training needs of the area, and that skillcentre involvement was not required. The situation will be kept under review and the Training Services Agency will, of course, consider any representations made to it on this subject.
