HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 cc65-6W
Miss Maynard

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the conditions under which the Government will allow the use of Trafalgar Square for a rally and demonstration on Northern Ireland.

Mr. Shore

As I said in a reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Birmingham, Selly Oak (Mr. Litterick) on 31st January—[Vol. 925, c. 58]—successive Governments have taken the view that it would be wrong to allow such meetings in present circumstances, but an exception was made for the Peace People because of their nonpartisan approach. The situation will be kept under review.
