HC Deb 11 February 1977 vol 925 cc880-1W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list in the Official Report the amount of money (a) allocated and (b) spent, on the youth employment subsidy since the scheme was introduced.

Mr. Golding

When the youth employment subsidy was introduced on 1st October 1976 the cost was estimated at £5.4 million.

Payments under the scheme are made in bulk at the thirteenth and twenty-sixth (final) weeks. Actual payments made up to the end of December 1976 amounted to £8,530 and related to a small number of premature terminations; the first bulk payments were not made until January 1977 and details are not yet available.

Assuming that all applications cover the full period of 26 weeks the amount of cash commitment as at 4th February 1977 was just under £2 million.

Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list in the Official Report the numbers of jobs which have been secured under the youth employment subsidy since the scheme was introduced.

Mr. Golding

As at 4th February 1977, 7,666 applications for subsidy had been approved in respect of young people entering employment.
