HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 cc746-7W
Mr. Costain

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what was the annual pay and pension of a senior executive officer as at 31st March 1976 and 31st March 1963, respectively.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The national salary scale for a senior executive officer at 31st March 1963 was £1,568–£2,001. The pension depends on the length of service and, for a man retiring at age 60, reaches a maximum after 40 years' service. A senior executive officer retiring on 31st March 1963 after 40 years and who had been at the maximum of the scale for the previous three years would have qualified for the maximum annual pension of £948 9s. 2d. (£948.46). The salary scale for a senior executive officer at 31st March 1976 was £4,900–£5,900. An officer retiring on that date on his maximum pay and with 40 years' service would have received the maximum annual pension of £2,950.
