HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 c747W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Minister for the Civil Service (1) whether holders of offices of profit under the Crown will be able to stand as candidates for the proposed direct elections to the European Assembly in 1978;

(2) whether he will list in the Official Report those persons not allowed to stand for election to the House by virtue of the Disqualification Acts, indicating which, if any, will be allowed to stand for election to the European Parliament;

(3) whether, and under what conditions, members of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Civil Service will be able to stand as candidates for the European Parliament.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The Government are considering the recommendations of the Select Committee on Direct Elections on the appropriate provisions to be made for disqualification from the European Assembly. An updated list of office holders disqualified under the House of Commons Disqualification Act 1975 and the Northern Ireland Assembly Disqualification Act 1975 is reprinted each year as required in those Acts.
