Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many schools in the county districts of the Greater Manchester Metropolitan County have been (a) destroyed by fire 472W and (b) damaged by fire, in the previous three years.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonThe information is not kept by my Department, nor is it readily available from Greater Manchester County Fire Brigade, in precisely and completely in the form requested. The Department was informed during the last two years of major fires in schools at Rochdale and Bolton, and is aware that there have been school fires in this period in Salford—two—and Wigan—five; but this information is not necessarily complete.
