§ 53. Mr. Moateasked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received about the distance limits to be placed on certain categories of goods vehicles from 1st January 1978.
§ Mr. William RodgersRepresentatives of the road freight industry have pointed out the difficulties of complying with the 275W 450 km. daily distance limit applicable under EEC Regulation 543/69 to drivers of single-manned vehicles with trailers or semi-trailers over 20 tonnes authorised total weight not using a tachograph. I recognise the problems caused by the limit, which was, however, accepted by the United Kingdom on accession to the Community.
§ 57. Mr. Blakerasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has yet received any reply from the Commission on his Department's proposals concerning the European Economic Community Regulations relating to drivers' hours.
§ Mr. William RodgersI refer to the Answer I gave earlier today to the hon. Member for Hereford (Mr. Shepherd) and the hon. Member for Macclesfield (Mr. Winterton).
