HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 cc823-4W
Mr. Jim Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he has any plans as regards the future of the post of Chief of Personnel and Logistics.

Mr. Mulley

In view of the importance at the present time of personnel and logistics issues, I have decided not to proceed with the proposal, announced in the Statement on the Defence Estimates 1977 (Cmnd 6735), that the post of Chief of Personnel and Logistics should lapse. The Chief of Personnel and Logistics will, in addition, assume certain responsibilities of the Vice-Chief of Defence Staff. The post will be re-titled Vice-Chief of Defence Staff (Personnel and Logistics), and the holder will be a member of the Defence Council. The post of Vice-Chief of Defence Staff will lapse.
