Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his estimate of the number of redundancies notified from the special development areas in Scotland in each of the past five years.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the number of redundancies recorded as due to occur from the special development areas in Scotland in each of the past five years is as follows:

Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish a table showing the number of redundancies notified to his Department in Scotland in each of the past 24 months; and if he can indicate how many of these were in shipbuilding, engineering, mining, steel, textiles and construction.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies in Scotland and the remainder of the United Kingdom, respectively, have been notified since the introduction of the Redundancy Payments Act 1965.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that information about redundancies before November 1968 is not available. However, redundancies which were notified to the local offices of the Employment Service Agency as due to occur during the period December 1968 to October 1977 are as follows:

Remainder of the United Kingdom 1,424,759

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many redundancies in Scotland have been notified to his Department from the public sector in the last two years.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that 4,886 redundancies have been notified to local offices of the Employment Service Agency as due to occur in the public sector in Scotland between November 1975 and October 1977.
