Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what major projects of upgrading or replacement he has for mental hospitals; if he will state the possible capital expenditure on each project; and if he will indicate planned starting dates.

The following schemes for the provision of new accommodation to replace facilities in existing psychiatric hospitals are included in the major Health Service building programme which my right hon. Friend announced in the House on 2nd May 1977.

Planned starting dates are not allocated until about a year before construction is due to start. The schemes were, however, placed in bands in the programme to indicate priority and to take account of the estimated planning time scale; the bands are not related to financial or calendar years. Estimated costs given below are very approximate.
