HC Deb 25 April 1977 vol 930 c250W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many hospitals are using acupuncture treatments.

Mr. Moyle

I regret the information is not available. Acupuncturists as such are not employed in the National Health Service. A qualified medical practitioner employed in a National Health Service hospital may use acupuncture as a treatment, but only if he considers this to be in the best interests of his patient, considers himself qualified to perform it and has the patient's consent.
