§ Dr. J. Dickson MabonIn 1976, 16.9 million tonnes of motor spirit were delivered for inland consumption in the United Kingdom. This is an increase of just under 5 per cent. on the 1975 figure. The budget increase in road fuel duty is expected to reduce motor spirit consumtion by about 1 to 2 per cent. in 1977–78 below what it would otherwise have been and by substantially more in later years.
