31. Mr. Ron Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consultations he has had with the Leader of the Liberal Party in regard to direct elections to the European Parliament.

32. Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consultations he has had with the Liberal Party on the question of proportional representation with regard to direct elections to the European Parliament.

I have discussed direct elections, among other matters, with members of the Liberal Party on a number of occasions on the basis of the speech made by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in the debate on 23rd March.
