Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will pay an official visit to Transkei; and if he will make a statement of Her Majesty's Government's future relations with that State.

Mr. Rowlands

My right hon. Friend has at present no plans to visit the Transkei. Her Majesty's Government will not recognise the Transkei on the occasion of its purported independence. In the absence of recognition the question of Her Majesty's Government's future relations does not arise.
