HL Deb 04 October 1976 vol 374 cc1070-1WA
Lord IRONSIDE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

(1) What was the total number of road fund licences issued in respect of battery powered electric road vehicles for the year ending December 1975 or for the latest available 12 months period, and how many of these were issued for a period of less than 12 months: and

(2) How many battery powered road vehicles are currently licensed for use on the public highway and what proportion of these are licensed for a period of less than 12 months.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Baroness Birk)

I regret that the cost of segregating the information necessary to answer the first part of the question is prohibitive. As for the second part, it would appear that about 25,000 battery propelled vehicles are currently licensed and that less than a quarter of them are licensed for less than 12 months.
