Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what was the total number of civil servants in each of the regions of England, in Scotland, Wales and the United Kingdom, respectively, during each of the last 10 years.

The estimated numbers of non-industrial civil servants in each of the English regions, in Scotland, Wales and the United Kingdom, respectively, for each of the last 10 years, are given in the table below.

Comparable information for industrial civil servants is not available centrally and could be compiled only at disproportionate cost.
