HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 c143W
53. Mr. Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the cost to public funds of maintaining seven Army horses in the Royal Army Veterinary Establishment at Melton Mowbray; and how many soldiers are involved in looking after these horses during the hunting season.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

The estimated cost of maintaining a horse at Melton Mowbray is approximately £1,100 per annum. There is no extra cost to public funds, and no additional work is involved in looking after horses during the winter, because of hunting.
