HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 c156W
Mr. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what amount of public expenditure cuts affects prison establishments in Scotland; and where the economies are to be made.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Planned expenditure on the Scottish prison capital building programme over the period from 1975–76 to 1978–79 has been reduced by £7.5 million. Building schemes in progress will not be affected, but starts on two major projects have been deferred indefinitely. Economies will be required in most areas of non-capital expenditure in order to hold expenditure to the present level.
