HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 cc120-1W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many new applicants asked for a tricycle between 1st January 1976 and the suspension of new issues in July in preference to the mobility allowance; and how many took the allowance.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Of about 30,000 claims dealt with under the mobility allowance scheme by late July of this year, just over 1,000 had been for the trike. About 22,000 successful claimants opted for the allowance and not the trike. Just over 600 successful claimants asked for trikes, but not all of them will have been found able to control the vehicle.
