HC Deb 09 November 1976 vol 919 c120W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many trike drivers accepted his Department's invitation to apply far the mobility allowance in advance in October 1975; and how many actually surrendered their tricycles and took the allowance.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Only disabled people between the ages of 15 and 25 were eligible to claim mobility allowance from October 1975 for payment from January 1976, and it is not possible to say how many such claimants were electing to surrender a tricycle. To date nearly 600 holders of tricycles between 16 and 50 have claimed mobility allowance instead and so far about 500 have surrendered their vehicles.
