asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many successful prosecutions have been brought by his Department with regard to abuses of the social security system in the first six months of 1976; and in how many instances convictions were secured.

Mr. Orme

The number of prosecutions for offences arising from fraud and abuse of the social security system in the first six months of 1976 is 9,290. Convictions were obtained in all but 192 cases.
