asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many established civil servants have resigned from the Civil Service since 1956 and have been reinstated, with the effect of regaining their permanent status and pension rights.

At 1st January 1976 there were approximately 6,000 civil servants in post who had regained their permanent pensionable status through reinstatement since 1956.
